Rising Above Adversity: World Chaine Day 2024

When heavy rains flooded the United Arab Emirates, plans for World Chaine Day 2024 seemed washed away. But something remarkable happened amidst the disappointment: our community rallied together in a heartwarming display of unity and resilience.

Despite the canceled event, people from all over—Vietnam, Canada, Korea, and beyond—refused to let the rain dampen their spirits. Instead, they came together spontaneously, turning a setback into an opportunity for connection and celebration.

Impromptu World Chaine Day celebration at Pure Sky Lounge Hilton JBR became the unexpected venue for our gathering. Despite the flooded streets, collapsed highways, detours, and even power and water cuts, the evening was nothing short of lovely. We were fortunate to have the caring support of CDR angels who ensured our safety and comfort throughout the challenges.

Amidst the camaraderie, special moments of recognition added to the warmth of the evening. A super welcome was extended to visitors from Canada, Vietnam, and South Korea, embracing them as part of our global family. Particularly noteworthy was the warm welcome to Robert Walters, who was due for his 30-year Commandeur pin and now resides in Jersey.

Gratitude was also extended to our supporting members—Willi Diener, Petra Droege, Mona Zeineldin, Rolf Schroeder, and Uli & Grace Eckhardt—who played a crucial role in making the impromptu celebration a success. Their dedication and support ensured that despite the challenges, the spirit of World Chaine Day shone brightly.

At the heart of this uplifting story is Eleanor, our National Chancelier, whose unwavering dedication and leadership helped foster this incredible sense of community. Her determination to uphold the spirit of World Chaine Day, even in the face of unforeseen challenges, inspired us all. As we reflect on this unexpected turn of events, let’s hold onto the lesson learned: that when we come together, led by individuals like Eleanor, supported by our members, and embraced by visitors from near and far, we can weather any storm and find joy in the shared experience of being part of something bigger than ourselves.

Viva la Chaine!
